1989 marked a watershed moment in the history of Jammu & Kashmir. Hundreds of youths returned after receiving arms training in Pakistan-occupied Jammu & Kashmir
and Pakistan itself. Special camps equipped them with the skills necessary for handling advanced weapons and guerrilla warfare. The emergence of this new-age
terrorism, supported by a powerful deep state in Pakistan, caught the police force in Jammu & Kashmir off guard. They lacked both the weaponry and expertise
needed to confront this challenge, and suspicions arose that some policemen sympathized with the insurgents. However, the Jammu & Kashmir police were not
defeated; rather, they were determined to rise to the challenge. They underwent a transformative process and have now become one of the finest counter-terrorism
forces in the country. Their officers are exceptionally trained, having effectively managed the direst situations with courage and professionalism.
This book aims to shed light on the struggle and sacrifices of the Jammu & Kashmir Police as they combat terrorism within the region. The book's chapters
focus on select serving police officers and policemen who have made the ultimate sacrifice to uphold the ideals of India.
